Tomorrow evening, May 17th, make sure you stop by the grand opening of The Frank, a brand new retail/residential space located at 512 Rose Avenue. The event runs 5:30pm - 8pm and the Venice Art Crawl along with the Venice Art Council are sponsoring the evening’s festivities. The have organized quite a lineup of local artists, musicians and restaurants to make sure everyone is enjoying their first look at  Live Frankly Venice.
If you have driven down Rose lately you’ve seen the signs on The Frank, which is located directly across from Oscar’s. When I passed by I kept thinking I wanted to know more about the building - there is just something about it. Once I got the tour and learned about the management’s commitment to green energy, local artists and community living (including a community garden)  I didn’t want to leave! They have invested in LEED certification and have achieved the highest level of certification available.
There are one-bedroom, two bedroom and townhouse units and the ground floor is now home to the local favorite, Piccolo as well as Cafe Gratitude.
Maybe the best part? The Frank planned for parking —- and it is open to the public! There is $7 parking M-F, $10 S, Sun until 4pm, $.75 15 minutes, $3/hr with a $24 maximum.
Check out the free grand opening on May 17th, 5:30pm - 8:00pm, 512 Rose Avenue. The Venice Arts Council  will be hosting artist openings throughout the property, Shooflies is providing entertainment and all proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Venice Art’s Council’s Endangered Art Fund Project - Venice Beach Poet’s Monument.

Self Imprisonment, Passover and You
There is an enlightening article about Passover I just read in the Huffington Post by Rabbi David Wolpe . He says that Passover is about freedom but essentially we usually do up the trap ourselves. Then, when we find ourselves in this debilitating situation - whether we were put there or it is an honest accident/mistake - we start to feel like we deserve this circumstance.
This brings us to the biggest issue Moses had to overcome with the Israelites: Self esteem. He had to get them to realize they didn’t deserve the imprisonment that had befallen them so that he could get them to overcome it.
I think self-imprisonment arising from low self esteem has a lot of implications for us today. Especially for women. We have been thought of as 2nd in line for so long that we often put ourselves there. Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, in her recent Ted talk does an excellent job of illustrating how we women hold ourselves back and…also how we can end this self-sabotage. There are a lot of roadblocks for women, there is no denying this, however we often blame men for thinking that we aren’t good enough for the top jobs or other positions.
But do we think that we are good enough? Additionally, what do women perceive about women? Most important of all - what do you think about yourself?
The key to finding empowerment from the answers to these questions is doing this soul searching with self-love and heartfelt love and understanding of other women and their struggle. In fact, if you don’t love and get along with other women chances are the reason is because you are not yet able to have compassion and love for yourself.  It all starts there. Strangely, I’ve found that self love and love in general is the main business tool you’ll need to get “ahead” … and they aren’t teaching it in any business school in this town (or any other!).

Be or Behave?
“Your Beliefs Don’t Make You a Better Person, Your Behavior Does”
Muahahahah! If only it were that easy!…
Oh, er, what is that? IT IS THAT EASY TO FOOL PEOPLE WITH YOUR BEHAVIOR? Well, business as usual for the cons, sociopaths and psychopaths of the world then. Carry on scary people - as you were - no one is on to you as long as you “behave” well and “do” good.
People are always saying you are judged by your actions and that is what counts. Well, yes and no. We are judged by our actions but that is not all that counts.
What about all the cons and sociopaths and psychopaths out there swindling people out of their homes, jobs, relationships, life savings and very lives?
I want to say “do good things because that is what you are judged by” but that can be such a con. And we have all been tricked by people who are like that to some degree or another. They “do good things” so we think they are a good person. So what went wrong? Because in the end they completely fucked with you! THAT is what went wrong.
They are cons. They layered good deed icing on the shit of the person that they truly are. Therefore, I’m sorry to say that NO, doing good things is not what you want to look for in a person. Well, it is not the only thing you want to look for in friends, employees, employers, possible mates and others of your circle.
You want to look for the state of being of the person. ARE they a good person. Can you feel, can you INTUIT, that this person’s gut of guts is good…and that they are good for YOU. Because almost anyone can DO good things. Good things are very easy to mimic. Big fat meanies who treat their animal poorly, their employees horribly but do good deeds for their family does not make them good people. Not to me anyway. Maybe to you - so you need to figure out where the “does good” cutoff is in your book.
Remember that cons are especially good at doing good things for everyone - everywhere - in plain sight - until that defining moment when the rug gets pulled out.
So are sociopaths and psychopaths. They know what we normal, naive people [ie non-psychopathic people] like to see and judge as good behavior and they mimic it. But if you slow down, enough to hear your intuition, you will feel the truth under the bullshit and in this case the truth will stink to high heaven like that painful, hard-to-swallow-good-for-you-medicine brand of truth. If you just plain old ARE a good person you don’t have to DO good because everything  just flows easily from BEING who you are. It is all really simple. The good people don’t care about DOING good because they just ARE good and there is nothing to prove.
Which is why I just hate these kinds of placards about DOING. They DO the opposite of what they are intended - unless a con wrote them. Then they are just perfect.
